Weekly Update 14.07.20

Hello all,

We hope you were all able to enjoy the weekend’s sunshine and fingers crossed it comes back this week for those who may have been busy working. For an overview of all the Youth Work team offered here through their TRAIN social media accounts last week for young people to enjoy, the week included:

  • Interactive polls – it was a fun themed week for Lunch & Debate, Charlotte asking a series of questions through Instagram polls, lighthearted but with the potential for triggering some serious debates! e.g. cinema or bowling – what would you choose?
  • Kahoots quizzes – lots of young people enjoyed this week’s general knowledge and how much do you know about London quizzes!
  • Participation – it was brilliant to see young people sending in self-made videos in response to Harry’s PTSD awareness challenge, challenging them to create videos or posters centered around the anxiety disorder.
  • Short films – Tuesday’s Dinner & Debate session saw Harry post 15 minute drama ‘Rise Up’ (MillionYouthMedia), centered around a young man’s experiences of bullying and body image. Young people then shared their views on the film through the debate style questions posted on Facebook after.
  • Gaming – young men enjoyed spending time gaming with Harry online, building their team work and communication skills whilst enjoying some important socialising and respite.
  • Instagram Lives – this week Lisa led a fun virtual dog walk on (luckily a very sunny) Friday evening which young people were free to have a watch of and comment throughout.

Alongside added social media posts (from covid-19 updates to pet selfies) and lots of good conversations during staff’s 1:1 check-ins with young people, Justina began 1:1 virtual mentoring sessions with 2 new young people. We look forward to seeing the young people’s progressions over the course of the programmes and would love to hear from you if you are interested in making a referral for a young people to participate in the programme too! (We have lots of spaces available). Sessions* are free and held typically for an 1 hour a week over a course of 6 weeks. A range of topics are typically explored across the programme, but overall it is very flexible to the needs of each young person. If you have any questions on signing up, please feel free to get in touch with Senior Youth Worker Justina email: justina@didcottrain.org.uk or Facebook: @Justina Train. Further information and referral forms can be found through the following page

Please see our timetable for the week below for a flavour of what we have coming up. When spreading the word about our wider provision, as always we suggest advising young people to friend/follow the Youth Work team on Facebook and Instagram to hear about all they are getting up to: @Justina TRAIN, @Harry TRAIN, @Charlotte TRAIN and @Lisa TRAIN.

We have also been having a few teething issues with our website so would like to apologise for various information which has been missing from it. We are in the process of sorting any issues and building it up so please bear with us and don’t hesitate get in touch via phone or email if you have any other questions for us about our provision or any other aspects of our work.

Otherwise we hope you all have great weeks and they don’t come to be too hectic with the run up to the Summer holidays! Take care all and thank you as always for your support.

Best wishes,

The TRAIN Team
