Over the past couple of months several of our young people took part in the Generation Heartbeats programme facilitated by Oxfordshire Youth. The aim of this programme was to break down gender barriers, pressures, stereotypes and expectations that play a key role in young people’s relationship to sport, health and wellbeing.
The sessions included opportunities for the young women to try new sports, such as boxing – see photograph.
As part of this programme, two young women completed ILM Level 2 Award in Leadership and Team skills.
One of our young leaders, Lydia, said “boxing was fun. It was good to have a go at a sport that is perceived to be male. It reminded me it’s good to keep fit and healthy and it also helped me to relieve some stress.”
