Didcot TRAIN Youth Project

TRAIN meets The Great British Bake-Off

TRAIN young people were challenged to design, bake and decorate a show-stopping two layered, firework themed cake with the help of Christine Wallace, semi-finalist of the Great British Bake-Off 2013.

In true bake-off style, we had three hours to complete this challenge. Initially we thought this sounded like an easy task, but when the competition got going, we soon felt the pressure the contestants on the show must feel when ensuring timings were kept to, and attempting to stop the icing from melting in the heat of the kitchen!
Christine gave us all some great techniques for keeping our cakes moist and fluffy, for creating the best designs and for displaying our cakes when finished.

The young people had a fantastic time quizzing Christine about baking techniques, and the experiences she went through on television. The girls are all keen to expand their baking skills in future events, and have already started planning their bakes! We are very grateful to Christine for the time she gave to do this, and look forward to working with her again in the near future.
