TRAIN’s Trustees are taking the coronavirus outbreak very seriously. Intending to maintain delivery as much as possible, we must also abide by our duty of care to our employees and the young people TRAIN supports.
Considering the updated government guidelines, the decision was made at the beginning of the government lockdown to pause all face to face delivery for the time being. Provision across the months since has instead been run virtually, to ensure staff can continue to reach out to young people and vice versa in this unsettling time for them. With the easing restrictions, we are very pleased to have now been able to reintroduce our detached youth work also. Staff have therefore been able to begin engaging with young people face to face again during their walkabouts around the town, whilst continuing their online support in the meantime.
The team’s virtual delivery includes former group sessions and also added new opportunities. If you are aware of a young person who may benefit from our virtual support, we recommend encouraging them to follow/friend Youth Worker’s professional social media accounts, to see what activities and support they are offering each week:

They are also very welcome to give Youth Worker’s a call in through their delivery hours:

Example activities we have been continuing to offer through digital sessions include:
– Participation activities
– Interactive games
– Virtual Arts and Crafts
– Guided mindfulness and relaxation
– Facebook and Instagram lives and much more
‘Virtual Hangouts’ also to give young people the opportunity to contact staff if they would like 1:1 chats or to join in with positive group conversations with peers.
Our timetable varies from week to week but an example can be found below. We have also been carrying out free 1:1 Virtual Mentoring sessions for 11-18 year olds living in Didcot, Harwell or attending a Didcot school – weekly sessions over a 6 week period per young person. Please click here for further information.
We will be continuing to post our weekly news updates through our News page to keep you informed on the opportunities we have available. If you would like to receive email notifications for these please do get in touch to be added to our mailing list or subscribe by scrolling to the bottom of our homepage. We would also love for you to friend/follow our @DidcotTRAIN Facebook and Twitter pages, which will help you keeping even more in the know about what we have going on!
Explore More 2020 has also been postponed due to the travel restrictions in place and insurance implications. TRAIN will seek to schedule alternative dates once circumstances change.
The Trustees are continuing to follow government advice as well as listening to other youth charities in Oxfordshire, actively seeking to minimise risk for each aspect of delivery. In the meantime, please do feel free to get in touch if you have any questions at all in regards to any of the above by: emailing email@example.com, calling 07458306358 or messaging us through Facebook @DidcotTRAIN.
We do hope you are all keeping well through these difficult circumstances and encourage you to please spread the word to support us in reaching out to as many young people as we can in the area. Take care.
