TRAIN’s Trustees are taking the coronavirus outbreak very seriously. Intending to maintain delivery as much as possible, we must also abide by our duty of care to our employees and the young people TRAIN supports.
With the onset of the first lockdown, the need arose for us to pause our face to face Youth Work sessions. Instead we transferred our delivery online, to offer virtual alternatives to our Detached and in-house sessions – ensuring staff could continue to reach out to young people and vice versa.
Our Explore More 2020 residentials unfortunately had to be postponed due to the travel restrictions in place and insurance implications. TRAIN will seek to schedule alternative dates once circumstances change.
Over the months it has been brilliant to have been able to slowly reintroduce face to face sessions again, with changing guidelines and following our work to ensure firm risk assessments have been in place.
Continuing to follow National Youth Agency Guidance here at TRAIN and carefully risk assessing all we are running, at the moment we are able to offer:
- Invite only face-to-face Support Groups
- Detached around Didcot
- Virtual activities in Virtual Dinner & Debates and our Virtual Youth Club e.g. quizzes, debate-style polls
- Check-ins in Virtual Hangout sessions – young people can contact staff if they would like 1:1 chats, as well as staff reaching out to young people to check how they are doing
- 1:1 mentoring
- Our Head Start group mentoring – within schools and virtually
Young people can follow/friend the Youth Work team’s TRAIN social media accounts to keep in the know and get involved in any virtual activities. They are also welcome to call or message them in their delivery hours. Find their numbers and social media names on our Weekly Timetable – head to our News page for this weeks, also released each Monday through our @DidcotTRAIN social media pages. Also keep an eye out for how our timetable will look over the Easter holidays, with extra activities!
How to keep updated:
To keep in the know about our provision and other news, we release updates through our News page. If you would like to receive email notifications for these, please do get in touch to be added to our mailing list or subscribe by scrolling down to Keeping Updated on our website’s homepage. We would also love for you to friend/follow our @DidcotTRAIN Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn pages!! We would be hugely grateful for your support in spreading the word about TRAIN and our provision – whether by word of mouth, sharing our Facebook posts or sending our timetable or the poster above to young people you feel may be interested. This will support us in reaching out to as many young people in the town as we can, so that all who may benefit from our support and activities know we are here.
The Trustees are continuing to follow government advice as well as listening to other youth charities in Oxfordshire, actively seeking to minimise risk for each aspect of delivery. Please get in touch if you every have questions for us – whether you are a young person or a parent/carer/professional aware of a young person you feel may benefit from our support through: emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, calling 07458306358 or messaging us through Facebook @DidcotTRAIN.
We do hope you have all been keeping well over the difficult past months it has been. Take care everyone 🙂
